Dr. Eleanor “Lynn” Collins, 68, of Glenwood, MD passed peacefully from this life on the evening of December 18th, 2012 in Arlington, VA. She died due to complications of lupus and kidney disease.
Lynn was born on June 4, 1944 in Springfield, IL to parents Eleanor Elizabeth (Rachford) Miller and Robert E. Miller. She received her undergraduate degree from The College of New Rochelle, NY in 1968, followed by her Masters (1972) and PhD (1985) from University of Maryland, College Park in Mathematics Education.
Her most dedicated employment occurred with the Howard County Public School System as a Gifted and Talented Mathematics teacher for accelerated students for nearly 40 years. As an inspiring and passionate educator, she touched the lives of many students, families, teachers, and colleagues.
Dr. Collins was the first recipient of the Maryland State Math Teacher of the Year Award in the late 1970’s and proceeded to collect multiple awards on the local and state level. Lynn was also an active member of Alpha Gamma Chaper of Delta Kappa Gamma, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and American Association of University Women.
